Ed. I keep getting logged out
Posted by axptguy38 (165 days ago)
Hi Ed.
Since this afternoon I constantly get logged out. Not every time I go to a new page, but about 90% of the time. For example to create this thread:
- I was logged in and clicked "Create new thread".
- I got the welcome splash and pressed skip
- I got the main page and pressed "Advice forums", then "Living..."
- I pressed "create new thread".
- I got the login screen and logged in.
- I was back at the "Living..." page.
- I pressed "Create new thread" (3rd time if you've been keeping count) and could finally start typing.

The thread was posted. But as soon as I clicked on it to add a post I was logged out again. In order to edit I have to click "reply", log in, then click edit... :(
I am using Firefox 3.0. This worked fine for about 24 hours, then it went all wonky. I have cleared cookies.

I told you that would happen, it was fine for me to begin with as well then went schiso, the problem is also inconsistent, sometimes it keeps you logged in other times it logs you out for no reason, and some times you cant even post it keeps asking you to log in doesn't happen with webmail, so it must be compatability issue. SG ed said he was aware of the problem already.

Hello,
Have you using the beta version of FF 3.0 or the latest stable version of 3.0?

I actually think I am using beta, because I downloaded it a day before it was officially released.

Its a real pain in the behind, but you actually get used to it after a while.

Hi, I dont know if you have fixed the issue, but I was having problems staying logged in to my webmail as well with the new browser, but I was having those problems with the old browser as well all of a sudden, which is why I upgraded the day before release, not knowing the official Firefox 3 was to be released the next day, anyway my computer schised on me so I had to reload XP, and re install firefox again, and the problem seems to be resolved, at least for the last 10 hours anyway. It would be good if you could let us know whether you resolved the issue, or whether the re installation is what did the trick. If I continue having log in problems I will post.

BTW this still happens, though not as often. Now I just need to log in once and I stay logged on. However I am still logged off if I get back to my computer after waking it up from sleep.

Keeps happening to me as well frequency is down, but it seems to have a mind of its own as to when it does log you out.

Since yesterday I no longer get logged out. If you did something, way to go. If you didn't... well as long as it works. ;)

Not sure what our guys did - they are working on massive dev at the moment - too much to keep track of almost... loads of new content/stuff coming on the home page soon - but its top secret so I cant tell you yet... very exciting

axptguy38 if you are using Firefox latest version, don't jump for joy yet, It keeps you logged in for days at a time as if there is no problem and then for no reason decides to log you out and wont let you stay logged in making you sign in every time you post. The log in on this site has a mind of it own, so if you aren't experiencing the problem at the moment, that is good news, but assuming the problem is not fixed I would be interested to know whether you don't see the same issue after a month (at least a number of times). I have been fine for the last few days, today it decides it wants me to sign in every time I visit.

Have stayed logged in for 3 days now without having to sign in again. I wonder if this problem has been fixed or I am speaking to soon. I hope not its a real pain in the behind.

there's 2 causes for that behavior:
1 - Firefox 3 appears to randomly currupt cookies which cause you to log in again, or "lose" that logged in state switching between pages. This happens to everyone using this browser, sometimes I experience it multiple times in a day and sometimes I go weeks without issue.
2 - Users based in Hong Kong will experience another problem, and there's nothing we can do about it. There's a cache in place for seemingly all ISPs based in or routed through HK that affect the login process and can adversely affect setting the browser cookie.
What's happening is your browser/computer requests the webpage to login, but instead of going to our server the request goes to this third party cache which can't log you in; a second request is then sent which appears to cause invalid cookies for Firefox randomly.
#1 is a browser bug, #2 is an isp issue.

Thanks for the explanation. The problem has become manageable so no biggie I guess.

we're beginning the prototype phase for our new dotnet platform which will address all current bugs, gui issues and introduce a lot of new features (through various version roll outs).
